The
hyperbaric oxygen therapy consists
of submitting a patient to an environment
pressure above the atmospheric pressure,
within a sealed chamber, breathing
pure oxygen. These chambers are
essentially pressure-resistant metallic
cylinders, equipment with watchers
or windows. Some chambers, designed
for individual treatment, are built
with pressure-resistant clear acrylic,
allowing for visual contact with
the patient and minimizing the incidence
of signs of claustrophobia.

patient's safety and comfort, the
hyperbaric chambers are equipped
with a radio system, keeping permanent
communication between the patient
and the oxygen therapy service staff.
Throughout
the treatment, the patient is monitored
through measurements of PA, FC,
FR, ECG, EEG, body temperature and
skin oxymetry; he may even be assisted
with respirators, submit himself
to venous infusions, transfusions,
wound or cavity drainage.
Decompressive
disease - a disease that may assault
the diver who does not comply with
the decompression tables recommended
for the time spent in this activity.
The depth achieved during diving
ends up by manifesting itelf as
pain in the joints and neurological
symptoms, such as paralyses of parts
of the body.
